7:30 AM – Hotel Pickup and Departure from Hanoi
Your private Ninh Binh day tour begins with a convenient hotel pickup from Hanoi’s Old Quarter. Meet your friendly, English-speaking guide and settle into a comfortable, air-conditioned private car. Enjoy a scenic drive through the Red River Delta as you leave the bustling city behind and head toward the peaceful countryside of Ninh Binh – often called "Ha Long Bay on land" for its dramatic limestone landscapes.
9:45 AM – Visit Hoa Lu Ancient Capital
Start your cultural journey with a guided visit to Hoa Lu Ancient Capital, the historic seat of Vietnam’s royal dynasties in the 10th and 11th centuries. Explore the atmospheric temples of King Dinh and King Le, nestled in a quiet valley surrounded by karst peaks. Your guide will share stories of Vietnam’s early monarchs, dynastic battles, and the rich heritage that shaped this region.
11:00 AM – Explore Bich Dong Pagoda
Next, discover the spiritual charm of Bich Dong Pagoda, a unique cave pagoda complex built into the cliffs of a limestone mountain. Climb gently up a series of stone steps through shaded grottos to reach three peaceful temples – each with sweeping views of the Ninh Binh countryside. It’s a quiet, contemplative stop, perfect for soaking up the scenery and taking beautiful photos.
12:30 PM – Authentic Vietnamese Lunch in Tam Coc
Stop for lunch at a traditional garden restaurant in Tam Coc, where you’ll enjoy a delicious Vietnamese meal made with fresh, local ingredients. The setting is relaxed and family-run, with options for vegetarians and special diets. It’s the ideal spot to recharge before your afternoon adventures.
2:00 PM – Optional Boat Ride in Tam Coc (Highly Recommended)
Choose to experience a sampan boat ride in Tam Coc, one of Ninh Binh’s most iconic activities. Glide along the Ngo Dong River through limestone valleys, lush rice fields, and natural cave tunnels – all rowed by skilled locals using their feet. This peaceful, photogenic journey is a highlight for many travellers visiting Ninh Binh from Hanoi.
3:30 PM – Local Village or Market Visit
Depending on your interests and energy, we’ll include an additional cultural stop. You may visit a local craft village known for traditional embroidery or wood carving, or explore a small countryside market for a taste of rural life in Ninh Binh. This part of the day is flexible and tailored to your group’s pace.
5:30 PM – Return to Hanoi
Relax as we drive you back to Hanoi in your private car, arriving at your hotel by early evening. After a full day of discovery, history, and natural beauty, you’ll return with a deeper understanding of Vietnamese culture and a camera roll full of memories.

Travelers journal
The city slipped away behind us as we left Hanoi, and before long we were rolling through rice paddies and riverside villages like something out of a painting. Our guide chatted to us along the way, pointing out buffalo in the fields and explaining why every house seems to have a water tank on the roof.
First stop: Hoa Lu. It’s hard to imagine a time when this quiet valley was the heart of a kingdom, but wandering between the ancient temples and stone gates, you get a sense of just how deep Vietnam’s history runs. No crowds, just echoes of emperors and the smell of incense.
Then we climbed up to Bich Dong Pagoda – and I mean climbed. The views were worth every step. Little shrines tucked into cliffside caves, birds wheeling overhead, and that kind of silence you only get in the countryside.
Lunch came just in time. A family-run place tucked in a garden, the sort of spot you’d never find without a local. Fresh, simple, delicious – and not a tourist menu in sight.
We finished with a peaceful boat ride through Tam Coc. The rower used her feet (impressive) while we drifted past golden rice fields and through limestone caves. It was one of those surreal, slow-motion experiences where you feel like the scenery might be showing off a little.
We got back to Hanoi just as the sun was going down, a bit sun-dazed, happily tired, and feeling like we’d stepped into another world for a day.
